  • Gedling Schools KS1 Multi Skills Festival

    Fri 27 Sep 2019
A huge well done to the ten Year 2 children who competed at the very first KS1 Multi Skills Festival at Carlton Academy. Sport at Phoenix plays a vital role in keeping us healthy and it was great to see so many children from our local community joining together and demonstrating their skills. You made us very proud!

    Thu 26 Sep 2019
What a great first Coffee Morning of the academic year, and all for a brilliant cause - Macmillan. We raised £230 and had a great time doing so! A huge thank you for your support and for your donations of delicious cakes.
  • The Year 2 'Big Sleepover!"

    Fri 05 Jul 2019

    A first for Phoenix!

Forty-nine Year Two children had a sleepover at school this evening. We all had an amazing time. All the children were brilliant - no tears at all at bedtime, showing how safe, secure and confident the children feel here at Phoenix. The sun shone too and we enjoyed a range of activities together. We created lots of happy memories together and I hope the children will remember this evening for many years to come.

  • Farrell Treacy

    Mon 24 Jun 2019

Tomorrow we are very excited to be hosting Farrell Treacy at Phoenix. He will lead an assembly, deliver question and answers sessions with the children and also workshops. The day is all about giving our children opportunities to be inspired!

The company ‘Inspired Through Sport’ are working with us to give the children this opportunity. They work hard to raise the profile of sport and also provide funding for aspiring athletes to compete. There is therefore an option to sponsor your child. However, you do not have to bring in any sponsorship - the option is there is you would like too. All children will take part regardless and all children will receive a certificate to say they have participated. Any other prizes through sponsorship are sent separately after the event and therefore each child will not be aware of other childrens’ sponsorship amounts or prizes. This is a new venture for Phoenix and the main driver of the event is enthusing and exciting our children about sport and the many different sporting opportunities.

We hope that your children come home tomorrow evening discussing the athlete visit and feeling inspired. We will add an update tomorrow with photographs.

  • Phoenix Garden Party

    Fri 21 Jun 2019

The Phoenix Garden Party took place on Friday 21st June and what an event it was! The weather was very kind and thanks to our very small but committed PTA membership and the help of staff the event had a wonderful community feel that epitomises the ethos of Phoenix. Thank you also to everyone for coming along to support or donating items. The takings on the day were £1100! A huge achievement. We are getting towards the end of the 2018/19 academic year and what a fitting way to end. Please take a look at the message below from Sonya Hand who has done an amazing job as Chair of the PTA. I know the hard work and sleepless nights that go into these events and I know that you will all join me in saying a huge thank you to Sonya as she steps down in her role of Chair of the PTA.

    Message from Sonya Hand

What a fantastic event it was and we hope you enjoyed  the event as much as we did. It's our last whole school event for the year as we prepare to say goodbye to our current year 2's and welcome in our new foundation children.

It is also a goodbye from me as I step down as the chair of your PTA. At the start of my first full year as chair the school set us an ambitious target of raising £10,000 to fund new books for the library and I'm delighted to say we achieved that goal with a lot of very hard work from both our small pta team and support from the school and local community.

This last 2 years has seen us become a registered charity, seen the introduction of our new online system which will now become the main way of purchasing PTA goods and tickets. We saw the Pimm's tent become a regular feature of the garden party, the big screen as part of film night and most importantly the creation of the PTA Facebook page! We hope you have find the new features helpful and enjoyable.

It's always at this time of year when I take the time to say thank you to all of you that have helped us over the year - whether that be donations, helping at events or sourcing us products. A big thanks to the staff at school including our lovely caretaker Mr Dunn and our cleaners Linda and Deb's and Ann-Marie in the kitchen who take our regular intrusions and mess in their stride without any complaint 😊

The biggest thank you however goes to the small PTA who spend many many hours of their own time working behind the scenes organising, running around and putting on events that make the children's time at Phoenix more enjoyable. That thanks extends to your children who are often left to get on with things at events without you and they do so without complaint. So Helen, Channing, Kate, Emma, Diane, Jack and to all those who have been with us over the past couple of years THANK YOU. We have been successful because of your hard work.

Finally from me - I have been honoured to be your Chair for two long but happy years but it's time for me to spend a bit more time with my children and let somebody else keep taking the PTA forward. Please keep supporting your PTA they are fabulous 🤩

  • Remembrance Day

    Fri 11 Nov 2016
This  morning at 11 a.m the whole school fell silent for Remembrance Day. During the week the whole school have been learning about the meaning of the poppy and why we remember. Mr Cunningham, one of our ex-grandparents came in to deliver an assembly all about remembering Laurence Alfred Clift who died aged 26 on July 22nd 1944. Laurence Clift was the last soldier of the Second World War to be added to the War Memorial at Arnot Hill Park. Some children wrote on a special cross from Phoenix that would be placed on the war memorial at Arnot Hill Park today. Mr Dunn, our caretaker, delivered a session in Class 6 about his past experiences in the forces and in the Falklands. The children wrote letters to Mr Dunn asking questions about his experiences. Take a look at the photographs below...
  • Robin Hood Mini Marathon

    Sun 25 Sep 2016
A huge well done to the thirty two children and accompanying adults who took part in the Robin Hood Mini Marathon! We are so proud of the children... They ran 1.5 miles and were a real credit to Phoenix.
  • Sports Relief 2016

    Fri 18 Mar 2016
We had a fantastic day! All the children ran a mile, even our youngest children and showed great determination. We also took part in a World Record attempt, along with other local schools as part of the Gedling Sports Partnership. The record currently stands at 1042 participants. We'll keep you posted.
  • Phoenix Parliament

    Mon 11 Jan 2016
On Friday 8th January 2016 we officially opened our very own Phoenix Parliament with the help of our local MP Vernon Coaker. Please visit our Phoenix Parliament section of the website to view pictures of our Phoenix MPs receiving their badges.
  • Liz the Librarian Visited

    Mon 02 Mar 2015
Today the children had a visit from our local librarian, Liz, from Carlton Library. Liz told the children all about the library in assembly and read a great story. All the children took home a Libary application form. Just nip into your local library for a library card and enjoy reading lots of lovely books together.
