Autumn Term

Welcome to Class 5! 

Our teachers are Miss Greasley on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Bloom on a Thursday and Friday.  Mrs Smith and Mrs Knapcyzk are our teaching assistants and we also work closely with Class 6, Miss Gossington and Mrs O'Hare.

Special Assembly 4th December 2020

The children have been working really hard this week on secret performance jobs!  All will be revealed next week, we hope you enjoy it!  Well done to our certificate winners this week.  Kian was our trophy winner for outstanding effort in all his work this week.  Ellie wqas given special effort for her amazing attitude towards her learning and Emily was awarded the manners certificate for always being so polite and helpful!

Special Assembly 27th November 2020

We've had brilliant fun this afternoon with our first Class 5 birthday party!  We were celebrating Ali'zah, Harry, Leia, Joseph, Logan, Maizee and Daisie's birthdays today with games, dancing, balloons and party food!  The birthday children also all got a small gift to take home with them!  Happy birthday to our September, October and November birthdays, we are looking forward to our December party already!

A huge well done to Freya this week for winning the trophy for her amazing attitude towards her learning.  Hope was given special effort for trying so hard with her writing and Logan was awarded the manners certificate for trying really hard to be polite to adults and children all the time. 

Special Assembly 20th November 2020

Another super week in Class 5! The children have been working hard in Maths adding and subtracting numbers.  In English, we've been using expanded noun phrases to describe characters and settings in our new book 'The Night Gardener' by the Fan Brothers.   Well done to our certificate winners this week.  Tilly was awarded the manners certificate for always being polite and respectful.  Xavier was given the special effort certificate for settling so well during his first week in Class 5 and Ali'zah won the trophy this week for his amazing independent work in Maths and English!

 

Pirate Day!

We had a truly fabulous finish to our pirate topic today!  The children all came to school dressed as pirates for the day and they looked AMAZING!  We were very busy making pirate hats and flags and we also made and decorated a sea biscuit to give us energy for all our pirate adventures!  We played pirate games outside and were all made to walk the plank! And of course no pirate expedition would be complete without a treasure hunt!  What a super day, thank you to all 'shipmates' for your excitement, enthusiasm and fantastic behaviour.  

We loved our time on the adventure playground as a reward for winning the stars last week!

Special Assembly 13th November 2020

Its been an action packed week this week starting with learning all about Remembrance Day and then thinking about Children in Need.  Class 5 have worked really hard and it has paid off because this week we won the stars! As a reward they have chosen to have some time to play on the adventure playground next week.  Our Superstars this week were Daisy B, Noah and Hope.  Daisy won the trophy for her amazing effort and achievements in PE and Art.  Noah was awarded special effort for perseverance with his handwriting and Hope won our manners certificate.  Well done to all three!

Remembrance Day 2020. To mark Remembrance Day 2020, Class 5 and 6 were visited by Mr Dunn. He told us about his time serving in the Falklands war and showed us some photographs, medals and memorabilia from his time there. We thought of questions to ask him about his time, We really enjoyed the session!

Special Assembly 6th November 2020

It's been a very busy first week back! The children have been superstars and been working really hard.  Well done to Dasie G who won the trophy this week for her fantastic focus and attitude in Maths.  Logan was awarded special effort for his concentration when writing and Leia was our manners superstar!  

Special Assembly 16th October 2020

What a busy week we have had this week! The children have loved culture week and have really got stuck into all our activities learning about Poland.  This week Ruby earned the trophy for her amazing effort in her Art work, even going home and continuing to practise her cutting skills and pattern making with Dad!  Daisy was awarded special effort this week for trying so hard with her reading and spellings.  Emily was our manners superstar for always remembering to be polite to adults and children in school.

The Class 5 team wish all the children a very safe and happy half term and we look forward to seeing them all again in two weeks.

Harper's Heroes!

Well done to Nevaeh and Kian for being Class 5's first Harper's Heroes.  All the adults in Class 5 have been so impressed with your outstanding attitude, effort and behaviour this half term.  Keep up the good work!

 

Culture Week 14th October.

Mrs Pottle came in to read us a story in Polish. We really enjoyed listening to it. It was called 'The Legend of the Wawel Dragon'.

Culture Week 14th October 2020. We tried some Polish food that Mrs Knapczyk brought in. We could try Polish Salami, Kabanos, Rogoliki and Fritki! We liked the Rogoliki the best.

Culture Week 12th October 2020. Class 5 will be learning all about Poland. We started the week off by discussing what we would like to know and find out about Poland. We looked where Poland was in the world and made the Polish flag.

Science and DT. Making pasta salads. As part of our Being Healthy Science Topic, Class 5 have designed, made and evaluated pasta salads. We had lots of fun making and eating them!

Special Assembly 9th October 2020

Another fantastic week from Class 5 which finished with lots of excitement as we won the stars!! The children thoroughly deserved it as they have worked so hard this week writing some super stories.  Check out our brilliant certificate and trophy winners below.

Special Assembly 2nd October 2020

Another fantastically busy week in Class 5.  The children have worked really hard this week planning their own stories which we will be writing next week.  In Maths we have been brilliant at using the greater than and less than signs to compare numbers and amounts.

29th September African Ark. Today we had Bemma from African Ark to work with us and help us learn about Black History Month which is in October. We did lots of work around being different and respecting each other. We discussed how we feel when people are kind and unkind to us. We also learned about famous black people, and in particular, Martin Luther King who wanted everyone to live together in peace and harmony. Finally we read a traditional story called 'Anancy and Mr Dry Bone'. We learned so much and really enjoyed the session.

Special Assembly 18th September 2020

Another fantastic week of hard work from Class 5! Well done to all the children but a special well done to our trophy, special effort and good manners winners this week, Noah, Harry and Nevaeh! Keep up the good work children!

Pirates!

Partake Theatre came to work with us this morning and took us on an amazing pirate adventure!  We visited Polynesia to do some hula dancing on the beach, danced with the penguins in Antarctica, battled through the stormy seas, bravely explored Volcano Island before finally reaching Treasure Island and finding the gold!  The session was lots of fun and all the children behaved fantastically and really got involved, including making up lots of their own pirate stories afterwards during playtime as well!

Well done Class 5!

Special Assembly 11th September 2020

Well done to all of Class 5 for being absolute superstars for our first full week back at school.  They have all worked so hard and showed a really good attitude towards their learning.  Their hard work has paid off as this week Class 5 won the stars!! After a vote, it was decided that as a reward the children will be able to come to school in non school uniform on Friday 18th September.

 

We can't wait to see everyone again in September and have some really exciting things planned for our learning!  Our topic for the Autumn term is 'Rivers, Oceans, Seas and Pirates!' and we are going to be taking a journey around the oceans of the world and finding out all about famous pirates.  Our curriculum web below will tell you more about the fantastic things we will be doing.
