Class 3

Welcome everyone to Class 3's class page!

Our teacher is Mr Farooq and our teaching assistant is Mrs Bowles and we work closely with Class 4. We are all super learners who try hard and never give up!

Every day we practise our phonics before moving onto English to develop our writing and reading skills. After milk and fruit we enjoy some well earned playtime before working hard on maths.

Our author of the moment is Claire Freedman, who has written many books including the critically acclaimed Monsters love Underpants, Dinosaurs love Underpants, Florence Frizzball, How to nab a rabbit, The Lost Penguin and Tiny Ant.

If you have any queries about anything, please come and see one of the Year 1 team and we will be happy to help.

Thanks to all of our grownups who came and read a story to Class 3 in the build up to World Book Day! We had a lot of fun reading the classics like 'The Tiger who came to Tea' and 'Spinderella'.

Numeracy:

In numeracy we have been learning one more and one less than a number.

We have been learning counting on strategies that have helped us count a large number of objects.
We have been writing our own addition number sentences.

Literacy

We went outside and braved the cold weather as we looked for signs of Winter! We found lots of trees without leaves and as you can see the children were feeling quite chilly!

Storytelling

In literacy we have been working on our storytelling skills by acting out different part of 'This is the Bear'.

Partake

We had a look at lots of toys, old and new, when Partake came to visit. We had a lot of fun playing with the toys and exploring how they work!

Culture Week

During Culture Week we have been learning about Japan! We learned how to say hello in Japanese (konnichiwa), we learned about different Japanese landmarks and finger painted Japan flags. We also learned how to count from 1-10 in Japanese.

We tried some Japanese food like seaweed and rice cakes but our favourites were the Pokki (chocolate) sticks and the noodles!

RE

We have been learning about the Hindu celebration of Diwali in RE. We reenacted the story of Rama and Sita and made our own diva lamps! We were lucky enough to take part in a faith experience, where we learned all about what happens at Diwali.

Science

Class 3 have been finding out about different senses in Science this term. We have been learning about the different parts of the body that are linked to our senses.

Outside we listened to birds and some of us also heard cars and a bus.
We learned about how we use our tongue to taste food. We then tasted a lemon, crisps and a biscuit. The lemon was quite sour as you can tell from some of the facial expressions!
