Class 3

A lovely morning with Class 3 at All Hallows Church. The children sang some hymns, rang the bells and had a tour of the church. A great morning and the children really impressed the adults there.

Hello and welcome to our class page!

Class 3 is a team currently of 27 children working with myself the class teacher Miss Gossington and Miss Zullo the class teaching assistant. We also work very closely alongside class 4.

We have been really pleased with how well the children have settled into year 1 and they have made a great start to the year ahead. In the morning we learn about phonics to help us with our reading and writing. Then English and Maths. In the afternoon this is based around topics that we are studying for the term.

Please keep checking this page for updates and photos about what we are learning.

Robin Hood

Today Part Take came to teach class 3 about the legend of Robin Hood. We really enjoyed dressing up and being in character as we walked through the story. There were lots of highlights like the soldiers collecting taxes, meeting Little John and, of course, when Robin Hood and Maid Marion got married. Here are some photos of our adventure.

Investigating materials in class 3 today as part of our science topic. We were trying to find out which ones were waterproof and would make a good umbrella. We first made a prediction and then carried out the investigation with some surprising results.

For culture week class 3 looked at Greece. We designed our own Greek vases which are now on display in the classroom. On Tuesday we tasted some different foods from Greece and in the afternoon we learnt a dance. We learnt about how the Olympics started and tried out some of the traditional games in the hall. We all had a great week and learnt lots and lots.

This week has been Book Week. We have had a busy week with our reading picnic and parent helpers coming to read us a story. We retold the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to the school. On Friday we had a visit from Book Man.

Art outside today sketching natural objects that Andy Goldworthy could use for his land art.

The chicks have arrived at Phoenix. After a visit to the hall to see them on Tuesday , class 3 spent some time this afternoon with the chicks. We all agreed that they are very cute and it was exciting.

Class 3 visit Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We had a great day getting close and seeing lots of different animals.

This week Class 3 have been learning about Shabbat. We know all about the creation story and we compared what we like to do on a Saturday to what a Jewish person does. We know lots of facts about Shabbat and we made some Challah bread. It was very sweet but most of us thought it was yummy.

Sports Day 2019 here are some pictures of class 3 in action. Well done to all the children it was a great afternoon.

This week class 3 have been reading the story of Meerkat Mail. The book is about Sunny the meerkat who decides to go on some adventures but he keeps in touch with his family. Ask your child how he does this. Today we decided to do some research on the laptops to learn more about meerkats.

On Monday Class 3 had a visit from Mr Dunn to teach us all about what it is like to visit the arctic. We listened really well and found out lots of information that we did not know before.

Class 3 were busy yesterday afternoon making their own smoothies in DT . When they were ready the children drank them and really enjoyed them.

Class 3 tasted some different smoothies today. We spoke about what fruits we would like best in ours. We tasted 3 different types and the mango and passion fruit was the one we liked best. The coconut and banana one was not as popular.

Today Farrell Treacy came to spend some time with year 1. We had an assembly where he told us all about his speed skating. We then got to spend some time in the hall learning some speed skating moves. After that we got to ask him some questions we had to learn even more about this exciting sport. We had a great morning with Farrell.

We have had a great end of the week in class 3.Our focus this week has been learning all about the story of Handa's Surprise. We spent some time trying out some of the delicious fruits then we had to think of adjectives for these foods. In maths we got the laptops out and worked with a partner to order some numbers within 100 from smallest to largest.

Great collaboration and moving round the classroom in maths today. Children worked with a partner to answer questions about ordering numbers.
