End of Year 1 Expectations.

As we are approaching the end of Year 1, below is a document and a number of resources outlining the expectations of children by the end of Year 1.

Year One Home Learning

Week Beginning 20th July 2020

In Literacy this week we shall be learning about the story The Little Red Hen. Read the story Powerpoint and then work through the activities on the Powerpoint.

In Numeracy this week we shall revisit what we have learnt in Year 1. Have a look at the activities in the booklet below.

Art. It is the last week of this school year and we would like you to make a poster of your favourite memories from Year 1. Below is a template that you may like to follow or you could draw your own design.

PE this week focuses on Gymnastics. Have a look at the document below for ideas and activities.

Week Beginning 13th July 2020

In Literacy we shall be focusing on our punctauttion and grammar for the first half of the week. In the second half of the week we shall be writing a letter to our new teacher. It would be great if you could take a photograph of your letter and email it to us so your new teacher can read it.

In Phonics we are going to revise split digraphs.Work through the slides below.

Work through the slides practising reading and writing the common exception words.

Handwriting this week focuses on u, j and y which all follow the ladder formation.

In Art this week we would like you to draw a self portrait for your new teacher. Look through the slides below to help you before you start.

This week in PE we shall focus on dance. Have a look at the document below for lots of ideas and activities.

In Maths this week we shall be learning about Place Value. Please work through the slides discussing activities with an adult or writing answers in your workbook.

In Phonics we shall be recapping some Phase 5 sounds. Please work through the slides.

Handwriting this week focuses on the letters l, i and t which all follow the ladder formation.

Work through the slides practising reading and writing the common exception words.

Reading this week is about the NHS. Read the document and answer the questions by either discussing with an adult or in your workbook.

PE ths week is about Cricket. Look through the document below for ideas and activities.

In Literacy we shall be looking at the fable The Lion and The Mouse. Go through the slides below completing activities in your workbook.

In Maths we shall be recapping subtraction. Work through the slides completing the activities by either discussing with a grown up or writing them in your workbook.

Phonics. Please work through the slides reading the sounds and completing the written activities in your workbook.

Reading this week is callled Stop Telling Fibs. Read through the document with an adult and answer the questions by either discussing the answers or writing them in your workbook.

Handwriting this week focuses on the letters s, f and o which all follow the curly caterpillar formation. Practise the letters in your workbook.

Read through the slides practising reading and writing the common exception words.

PE this week focuses on Athletics. Have a look at the document below for lots of ideas and activities.

In Maths this week we shall be learning about number bonds. Work through the slides below discussing questions with an adult and writing answers in your workbook..

Handwriting this week focuses on g, q and e which all follow the curly caterpillar formation.

Read through the slides below practising reading and writing the common exception words.

Reading. Read through the document below with an adult and answer the questions either in your workbook or by discussing with an adult.

PE this week focuses on basketball. Have a look at the document which gives you lots of ideas to practise skills needed in basketball.

Music. Practise singing the song 'Sing Of A Rainbow.' Can you make some actions to go with it?

In maths this week we shall be revising addition and the part whole model. Have a look through the slides and complete the activities in your workbook or by discussing with an adult.

In Phonics we shall be going over some previously learnt sounds. Please work through the slides for each day.

In Literacy this week we shall be learning about the story of Pinocchio. Read through the slides below and complete the activities. You will get the chance to answer questions about the story, describe the setting, draw a story map and write about the characters.

Handwriting. This week we shall focus on the letters c, a and d which all follow the curly caterpillar formation.

Common exception words. Work through the slides practising reading and writing these common exception words.

In Science we have been learning about plants. Read through page 1 of document below and answer the questions on page 2.

This week in PE we shall be doing Jumping and Athletics. Have a look at the activities in the document below.

Week Beginning 8th June 2020

In Maths this week we shall be revising addition and the part whole method. Work through the slides completing activities in your work book or discussing answers with an adult.

Over the coming weeks we shall be recapping and strengthening our key skills in Phonics, Reading and Numeracy. We shall be revising previous learning and focusing on a number of ideals that we would like the children to be able to do by the end of the term. These ideals are in the following document.

Maths this week will be about Halving. Read through the slides with an adult and complete the work by either discussing your answers with an adult or writing them in your workbook.

In Science this week we shall be focusing on what plants need to grow heathily. Please work through the slides below.

In PSHCEwe will be looking at our feelings. Please work through the slides.

Week Beginning 1st June 2020

Maths

This week is continuing with multiplication and division where the children are learning about equal groups, making groups and making doubles. The children can tell an adult the answer or write their answers in their work book. 

English this week is summer poems. Take a look at the slides and complete the tasks in your workbooks. Use the vocabulary at the end of the slides to help you write your own summer poems.

Art. This week art will focus on sculpture and the artist Andy Goldsworthy who makes sculptures from natural materials. Have a look through the Powerpoint to find out about sculpture and Andy Goldsworthy. Then have a go at creating your own sculptures.

Topic. Following on from our Topic work about maps, this week we shall be learning and practising compass directions. Go through the Powerpoint and then have fun giving someone at home directions.

PE. Below is an active calendar for the month of June. It gives you exercises and challenges to complete each day. Can you compete against your family members?

Growth Mindest. This week we would like you to think of any goals that you would like to achieve. These goals could be for today, for in a weeks time or for next year. Have a look through the Powerpoint and then draw some of your goals in your workbook.

Music. Music this week is about keeping a rhythm. Have a look through the Powerpoint and do the activities before using some instruments at home (or making some!) and keeping a rhythm to some music.

Phonics - different ways to say sounds. Work through the PowerPoint and complete the work in your workbooks.

Half Term

Week Beginning 25th May 2020

In the future people will look back at this time as a major event in our history. This time will not last forever, and when you are adults you will be telling children about what it was like! This week is your chance to make a Time Capsule! A Time Capsule contains information, photos and drawings to look back on and remember in years to come. You could either print off one of the templates below or design your own. Keep your Time Capsule somewhere safe so you can find them in years to come!

Phonics.This week in Phonics we will be learning about different ways to say the same letter. Please work through the Powerpoint below for each day.

Literacy. In Literacy this week we shall be looking at the story The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse. It is linked to our Geography Topic work that we have been doing. Throughout the week you will read and watch the story, make predictions, write sentences comparing the settings in the story, draw a story map and orally retell the story. Below is a Powerpoint with your tasks for each day as well as a Powerpoint for the story.

Below is a document that will help you with Tuesdays Literacy lesson.

Maths

This week is all about adding equal groups to make a total and arrays which are used to help understanding of multiplication.

Computing this week is looking at how we use computers. Read through the PowerPoint and complete the activity in your work books.

Science - Science is thinking about different plants that we eat. Take a look at the PowerPoint.

RE is again looking at the story of David and Goliath. Work through the PowerPoint and complete the work in your workbooks.

Growth Mindset - thinking about the power of the word 'yet'. Have a look at the PowerPoint.

PE. The Joy of Moving Home School Festival. As you are aware we had a visit from Nottingham Forest Football Club earlier in the year. The club is supported by a national charity called the English Football League Trust. This Trust has launched The Joy of Moving Festival which can be done both at home and school. The aim is to teach children how to enjoy moving through play and help them develop positive habits into adulthood. The booklet contains information about how children can participate in the festival at home. We hope that lots of children are able to join in. Please email any photographs to the office as we would love to see them. Have fun keeping active!

Phonics

English

English is all about finding out information about Ducks and their life cycle. If you happen to go for a walk and see some ducks or ducklings take a photograph and send them to the school office. 

Religious Education. Over the next couple of weeks in RE we are going to learn about the story David and Goliath from the Bible. Read through the story on the Powerpoint, watch the video and discuss the questions.

Growth Mindset. This week we will recap what growth and fixed mindsets are and which is best to have. You will then watch a video and decide whether the video shows an example of growth or fixed mindset.

Music. This week your task is to learn the song Moving to the Music. After you have learnt the lyrics make up some actions and dances to go with the song. Whilst dancing try to keep to the beat of the music.

Topic. This week we shall be learning how to read maps and give directions. Work through the Powerpoint below reading the maps and giving directions to an adult.

Growth Mindset this week is about knowing your strengths. Read through the PowerPoint and discuss what your strengths are with your grown up.

English

This week we are learning about Non-fiction and features of a non-fiction book. We have chosen information texts linked to our Science topic this term all about plants and animals and in particular growing plants. 

Phonics

Maths - this week maths is looking at number bonds. Work through the PowerPoint slides and complete work in your exercise books.

Topic. This week in topic we will be learning about Earth Day which is celebrated on the 22nd of April each year. This week for topic your task is to work through the Powerpoint before drawing a picture and writing a sentence about how you can help the environment.

Growth Mindset. This week we shall be focusing on positive affirmations which are positive thoughts. Work through the Powerpoint before thinking of some positive affirmations for yourself and for your family members.

Music. Last week we learned the names of and listened to different instruments. This week your task is to read the clues on each slide of the Powerpoint and guess the instrument.

Design Technology. Last week you brainstormed features of our local area. This week in DT your task is to make one of these features. The Powerpoint explains more about how you might do this.

PE. Firefighter Fit Kids is a youtube channel which has lots of training exercises and workouts.

Week Beginning 20th April 2020.

Topic. This term our topic will have a Geography focus. We shall be learning about 'Our Local Area.' The powerpoint slides for this week are below. Have a look through the slides discussing the questions with an adult. You will be asked to investigate an address label, explore Google Earth and any atlases or maps that you have at home and write a list of things that you can find in your local area.

Music. This week in Music we will be learning about different instruments. Have a look through the powerpoint below with an adult discussing the questions. You will need to listen to each instrument and discuss how the instrument is played, what sounds it makes and whether you like the sounds or not.

Art. This week we shall be learning about the artist George Seurat. He painting using a technique called Pointillism. Have a look through some of the art work in the Powerpoint below. You can then recreate the painting of the tulip field using Pointillism.

Growth Mindset. This week for Growth Mindset we shall be exploring fixed and growth mindsets. Your mindset is your attitude and how you think. Work with an adult and look through the Powerpoint slides below to determine whether it is better to have a fixed or growth mindset. After looking through the Powerpoint go through the sheet deciding whether the people have a fixed or growth mindset.

PE. The document below has lots of links for PE activities and games.

In school we do Take Five everyday which encourages us to focus on our breathing in order to help us with our feelings and to keep calm. Below is a meditation video which you may like to follow.

Maths - this week maths is looking at subtraction. Go through the Powerpoint and do any work in your exercise books.

English

Below are the powerpoints and resources for the daily English lessons.

Handwriting and Spellings. Please continue to work through the handwriting of common exception words in your pack. This is planned to take several weeks so please do not rush through it. We like it when you take your time with your handwriting.

Phonics. Please continue to work through the phonics booklet sent home in your pack. You can also go onto Phonics Play and play the different games. Focus on Phase 3, 4 and 5. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

Here is the powerpoint for this weeks Daily Phonics. Please follow the slides for each day and complete the activities.

Music for this week is all about using our body as a percussion instrument whilst keeping to a beat. Please follow the activities on the Powerpoint below. You will be using different body parts to make a beat whilst listening to music.

Music. Spring is on the way and we would like you to learn to sing the song Spring Chicken. The link is below.

Growth Mindset this week is all about perseverance, trying hard and helping others. Read through the Powerpoint below which is a story about an alien. How does the alien show perseverance? Discuss the questions in the Powerpoint with an adult.

In Art we have been learning how to draw self portraits. This week for Art we would like you to draw a portrait of someone at home. You can do this in your workbook. Remember to use the whole of your page and to put the correct facial features in the correct places. The document below will help you.

Maths this week is about Weight and Capacity. Please work through the Powerpoint slides for each day discussing the questions with an adult. If you have weighing scales or measuring jugs at home, it would be great (and lots of fun!) to practise weighing and measuring things with them.

P.E. Have a look at Joe Wicks on youtube. He is doing live PE lessons every morning at 9am.

Computing this week is looking at different types of technology and how we can use them. Have a look at the PowerPoint and complete the tasks in your workbook.

Literacy this week is about Spring Poetry. Please read through the Powerpoint with your child and complete the work in the workbook.

Phonics

Please work through the phonics booklet sent home. Practise reading and spelling the tricky words and try writing them in a sentence.

Go onto Phonics Play and play the different games. Focus on Phase 3, 4 and 5. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

Reading and Spelling of Phase 4 Tricky Words. Practise reading and writing them. Can you write a sentence with them?

Read the Phase 5 words. Use the sound buttons to help you.

Maths this week is about length and height. Please read through the Powerpoint with your child and discuss any questions. Children will be familiar with both the Powerpoint slides and the worksheets as we use these in school.

Topic/Art. We have been learning about Physical and Geographical features. Please read through the Powerpoint and complete the art activity in your workbook. You will need to be able to tell the difference between a Physical and Geographical feature before drawing one of each.

Science this week is a hand washing experiment. Please follow the instructions on the document attached below. In your workbook write a prediction before carrying out the experiment and then a conclusion saying what you found out.

PE. Here is a document which shares lots of websites with various active learning and PE sessions.
