Class 6

Welcome to Class 6! What a super start to a new year we have had.  The children have settled really well and have already produced some amazing work.  My name is Mrs Broad and I am the class teacher.  Mrs Smith is our teaching assistant and we work very closely with Miss Greasley and Mrs O'Hare in Class 5.  We begin every morning with Letters and Sounds followed by Literacy and Numeracy.  In the afternoon the children will explore other areas of the curriculum including DT, Art, Geography, Science, History, PE, Music and RE.  Please take a look at our termly newsletters to find out what is happening in these areas.  We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead and if there are any questions please feel free to speak to any member of the Year 2 team, we are all here to help.

The children had lots of fun with Steve from Partake retelling the story of The Great Fire of London. The children said what a great time they had and how much they loved doing drama.

In Science Year 2 had a huge fire inside the pen. The children were predicting which materials would burn and making observations of the fire.

The Fire brigade visited Year 2. This was part of our Fabulous Finish for our topic on Fire. They delivered a presentation about the Great Fire of London and let the children explore the engine.

In DT the children have designed and made a Tudor house. The children turned their boxes around themselves, painted them and made added the features to make them look like a Tudor house.

This week (15th October) has been Culture Week. We have been learning about the 4 countries of the United Kingdom. We started the week learning about Ireland. Here are some pictures of the children taking part in some Irish dancing.

Year 2 learned about Hanukkah with an interactive experience delivered by Reverend Johnson.

This half term in PE Class 6 have been learning Gymnastics with the sports coaches. This is what they have been doing...........

This Term our class Author is Anthony Browne. The children have already begun to read a selection of his books and compare with those written by Julia Donaldson. The children have researched facts about the Author and wrote a blurb for one of his most popular books "The Tunnel".

Class 6 have been exploring the large apparatus and investigating different ways of moving across it!

In Maths we have been learning to recognise and show equal groups. The children have worked practically to demonstrate their knowledge of equal groups.

The children designed and made a vehicle in DT. They investigated images of space buggies and this is what they made following on from our learning about Neil Armstrong.

During book week, class 6 had a great time sharing books with parents, a whole school book picnic and a visit from Book Man where the children had to help him name and explore books through drama.

In Science this term we are learning about living things and their habitats. Class 6 began the week by exploring micro habitats in our local area.

Year 2 visited the Sea Life Centre as part of our learning on habitats. Look at what an amazing time we had!

Year 2 had a visit from Partake drama company. The theme was Pirates linked to our topic "Oceans and Seas". Look through the pictures to explore the adventures we had.
