Nursery

We had such a great time at our Beach Party. We had fun in the water and then enjoyed a picnic with ice-creams afterwards.
When the sun returned we decided to have a beach shop outside.
We are coming towards the end of term and lots of the children are getting excited about going on holiday. We have had great fun packing up suitcases and pretending to go on holiday. 
We have been playing in our airport. We had to scan our cases and write boarding cards. We also made our own passports. We enjoyed refreshments in our airport café!
We were so excited when we arrived at nursery today as the White Post Farm Roadshow had arrived! Sage the donkey was  a favourite. He was thoroughly spoilt and had lots of apples. We had a fantastic day handling and learning about the animals. Some of us were even brave enough to give the lambs and kids their bottles of milk.
The animals stayed with us all day and we were able to find out lots of interesting facts about the animals.
We had some teeny tiny caterpillars in nursery and we have watched them grow and make cocoons. This week they have changed into butterflies so we have let them fly into our garden. They seemed to like our herb garden.
We have been watching the chicks grow. We helped to look after them by feeding them and cleaning them out every day. They grew really quickly!
We had great fun making ladybird biscuits.
Jacob brought in his Giant African Snails and their babies. We also found some snails on our bug hunt. We watched them slither across the paper.
Some of us made a wormery.
Outside we pretended to be mini-beasts- fluttering, flying, creeping, slithering and crawling
We have planted some beans in our boxes.
Watch out when you come into nursery as there is an enormous spider lurking around. Have a look at some of our amazing bugs on our display.
We have made some amazing bugs with playdough and used different things in the construction area to make houses for bugs.
We have planted sunflower seeds in our garden. Each group planted some seeds. Ladybirds have so far grown  the tallest.
We had great fun going on a bug hunt around the school grounds.
We began our topic Out and About in Summer by investigating the colour yellow.
We had a great surprise to begin the new term- a new fish tank.

Hello and welcome to our nursery class page especially to all our new starters. We will look forward to sharing our activities with you.

The Nursery Team have two teachers Miss Leigh-Browne who works Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Marriott who works Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We also have 3 Teaching Assistants, Mrs Betts who works Monday-Thursday, Mrs Chafer who works Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Mrs Richardson who works Monday Tuesday and Friday.

This week we have welcomed lots of new children and have been busy helping them to learn our daily routine and rainbow rules.

Each class has again been paired with an author and ours is Allan and Janet Ahlberg. We are going to introduce our topic on All about me by reading Funny Bones.

We will be taking part in lots of exciting activities.Please keep checking this page to see our photographs.

We finished the term by having an Easter Egg Hunt in our school grounds. We also made some chocolate nests- yummy!!
We had great fun during science week. We found out lots of interesting things about the changes all around us. If you haven't had chance yet to look at our class book please do. It is in the entrance to nursery.
We began the week by exploring our school grounds and noticing the signs of springtime.
We let the cars run down the guttering tracks and then worked out how we could make them go faster.
We went outside on a rainy day and felt the raindrops on our hands
We baked cakes and decorated them with flowers made from icing. We talked about how the mixture changed when it was cooked.
We made necklaces with uncooked pasta and then we noticed the difference in the pasta when it was cooked.
We talked about how ice is made. We had giant icebergs in our water tray.
 We enjoyed the story Mouse Paint and learnt how colours are made. Then we had  great fun mixing our own colours.
This week we have been celebrating world book day. We had a book picnic in the school hall where we shared lots of stories.

Some of our Y2 children came over to nursery to read stories to us. They liked our new reading tree den.

We all enjoyed Mr Dunn reading stories to us aswell.

Today we shared the story Mr Wolf's Pancakes. We made some pancakes, they were yummy!!
When we returned to nursery after half term there was a safari jeep in nursery. We have had great fun using our explorer packs and spotting different animals.
This term we have been taking part in weekly challenges. Sometimes we find the activities a bit tricky but we keep on trying! We have been learning a song in the hall with Mrs Wright " Have a go, Have a go because you never know" and the children have begun to encourage each other by singing it at the challenge table.
We all celebrated Chinese New Year. We retold the Chinese New Year story and some of us made lanterns and had a go at Chinese writing. We tasted Chinese food and did some dragon dancing.
We all had a great day at our parents open session when we had a record number of parents who came in to share stories with us
As a school we have been talking to the children about growth mindset. In the nursery we have been emphasising " I cant do it yet....." and having a try. We have shared stories about animals keeping on trying. A snake wanted to get across the river and had a difficult job to build a bridge but he eventually did it. We  used our outside bricks to build bridges.
Happy New Year and welcome back!  A big welcome to all our new starters who are settling in well and are learning our Rainbow rules and expectations. Our current children have been very good at helping them to settle. Please read our Nursery Newsletter and feel free to speak to a member of staff if you have any questions.
We looked at pictures of jungles and decided they were very green places. We have had lots of fun doing green pictures, paintings and collecting green objects.
We have enjoyed lots of imaginative play
Some of us had a go at making our own animals using junk materials.
During our snake week we were lucky to see some real live snakes. Some of us were even brave enough to touch them. Jackson's mummy told us lots of interesting facts about snakes and how she looks after them at home.

We began this term by thinking about jungles. What might a jungle look like? Would it be hot or cold? What animals might live there?

The children were very excited to come into nursery one morning and find a box with a label that said " Please look after me". We all had a go at guessing what might be inside. 

The next day we found a banana skin next to the box. That gave us a big clue!
The next day there was great excitement as we arrived to find the box was open but there was nothing inside. We  hunted everywhere and eventually found.......
December has been a busy month getting ready for our Christmas celebrations. We have made lots of Christmas decorations and learnt lots of songs for our Christmas sing along. Yesterday we had our special party day and had a surprise visitor!
We have been talking about our pets and how we have to look after them. Some children brought their pets into nursery.
We had great fun making pets in the playdough.
Jacob brought his African snails to show us they were huge!
Edith brought her guinea pigs in and we had a go at drawing pictures of them.
Bobby brought his puppy into nursery
We have been learning about Divali- the festival of lights. We had a go at making mehindi patterns.
At the beginning of November we had fun making fireworks. We used a paint spinner to make some beautiful firework patterns. Outside we used streamers to make firework patterns.
We also had great fun pretending to be fire-fighters

We have been talking about how we change and all the things that we can do now that we couldn't do when we were babies. We enjoyed another story by Allan Ahlberg "Peepo". We all brought in a baby photo and we had great fun guessing who was who.

Frank's mummy brought baby Arthur into nursery for a bath. It was great fun watching him splash in the water.

We have been learning to follow the rainbow rules whilst exploring our new environment.
We have talked about how we are all different. We looked in the mirror and then had a go at painting our portraits- you can see them in the entrance to nursery.
We have enjoyed listening to  Funny Bones  and joining in with the story. We looked at some xrays and felt our bones. Then we had a go at making our own skeletons. We had to concentrate really  hard as the split pins were a bit tricky!

On Friday 21st September we took part in a fun run. We had a great time running round the track on the school playground. We managed to do 10 laps and all deserved our medals.

We have been learning about which foods keep us healthy. We enjoyed making and eating fresh fruit salad .
We have been talking about Autumn and collecting lots of things for our investigation table. We enjoyed using autumn colours to make our leaf printings.
We talked about using our senses and  the things we might see, hear, smell and taste at Goose Fair. We enjoyed another Allan Ahlberg story The Ghost Train. We made fairground rides in the construction area and we made ferris wheels for our display. We all tasted mushy peas and enjoyed dressing up as policeman and talked about Stranger Danger.
We have been making the most of the sunshine and have spent time planting bulbs in our new garden.

This week ( 15.10.19) is Culture Week and we have been learning about France. We have learnt how to sing in French (Frere Jacques).We have made french flags and we have looked at pictures of famous buildings in France. Some of us had a go at building the Eiffel Tower! We all enjoyed tasting french bread and croissants. We looked at some pictures by a french painter, Cezanne and we tried very hard to draw pictures of fruit using pastels.

We have been learning about the Tour of France and today we had great fun having our own races on scooters.
