Class 6 - Julia Donaldson

Welcome to class 6.  We are made up of a team of 29 children, Mrs Broad, Mrs Smith and Mrs George.  We work alongside class 5 with Miss Greasley and Mrs O'Hare.  This year each class have been paired with an author and ours is Julia Donaldson.  Over the term we will be learning all about our chosen author so please keep an eye on all the exciting things we do.  The children have settled in really well and have made a great start to the year ahead.  Keep checking the webpage as we will regularly put on newsletters, photographs and work showing all the learning happening in class.  We will be starting with the topic "fire, fire".  The children will be exploring London as a capital city. The Great Fire of London in History, Electricity and materials in Science, Paul Klee in Art and designing and making vehicles in DT.  We are really excited about the term ahead and i am sure we are going to have lots of fun and enjoyment in our learning this year!

Look at what we have been learning and exploring so far this term! We began the term looking at Julia Donaldson books with our friends.

we all did book reviews on the Julia Donaldson books we had read in class. We found out lots of information about our class author and created a Julia Donaldson book area.

The children have enjoyed reading all about the Bog Baby and have been exploring the use of exciting adjectives to describe him.

In Science we have been looking at materials and their properties. The children worked together to sort a range of materials thinking about their own criteria.

In PE we have been exploring different ways to move across the floor and balancing using different body parts.

Phoenix Infant school have just celebrated Culture Week. Class 6 learned all about Switzerland. We made Swiss flags, tasted chocolate and cheese and learned some Swiss dancing. Look at all the fantastic work the children have done.

Rev Johnson came and visited Class 6 and taught us all about Judaism.

In art the children made Menorahs and Hanukkah cards.

Carlton Fire station visited the year 2's to compare difference and similarities between the fire service in 1666 to the present day. The children had great fun looking around the fire engine and using the hoses.

Partake drama group visited to retell the Great Fire of London.

Year 2 have been exploring African Art linked to our Geography. We have made necklaces, masks and Kente cloth. We explored using a range of media and creating patterns.

In Literacy we have been describing settings and it SNOWED!. We took this opportunity to explore the snow using our senses and did a shared write describing the setting.

In DT the children have been designing and making vehicles linked to the story "The Naughty Bus". The children were learning to plan a product and follow their plan. They were learning to choose appropriate materials and tools. Look at the amazing vehicles the children have worked hard to make.

Class 6 have loved watching the chicks hatch. Look at their amazing writing about Chicken facts!

We had an amazing time at Birmingham Sea Life Centre. The children were fantastic and made us feel very proud.
