This term our we are exploring the story of "The Little Red Hen". We arrived at school one morning to find flour had been spilled on the floor. We wondered where it had come from and had lots of ideas, but later in the day we found a hen on the grass outside Nursery and a diary with a message that said "No one would help me again today!" So we thought that maybe it was "The Little Red Hen" who had spilled the flour in school when she was looking for someone to help her.
The Giant Jam Sandwich
We explored lots of maths activities when we read this story about a place called Itching Down which was invaded by four million wasps and the villagers decided that they would build a giant jam sandwich to trap the wasps.
We tasted different jams and made tally charts to find out which was the class favourite, searched the internet to find out just how big the largest sandwich ever made was, estimated and counted how many slices of bread in a loaf and calculated how many sandwiches we could make from a loaf of bread.
Whitepost Farm
We had a great time at the farm. We saw, fed, stroked and held lots of animals and we made animal masks so that we could play the
characters when we performed the story of The Little Red Hen. We enjoyed a picnic in the sunshine and even had time for a quick play in the play park.
We have enjoyed arriving at school before the other children so we could enjoy pretending to be customers in our breakfast cafe. We had menus and money so we could order and pay for our food. It was great fun!
