Problem solving in maths this morning in class 4. Some great team work solving some tricky questions.

Year 1 learning and having a fabulous time at Yorkshire Wildlife park.

Very exciting morning today in class 4 because we had some little, fluffy visitors come to see us. We then filled out the next page of our chick diary.

Easter fun in class 4. Making slime because we are the class stars this week.

In art the children have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. We worked together to recreate the painting A Starry Night. A great effort by the children I'm sure you will agree.

During book week class 4 looked at the book Chalk. This is different to other books as there are no words. Because of this, class 4 worked together to create a class book of the story but with words. Come and read a copy of this on our display. Also the children used chalk to draw pictures of what they would like to come alive.

In Topic we have been looking at Toys from the past and comparing those to toys that we have today. Tom from Partake came to spend the morning with class 4 and we had great fun playing and learning about toys from long ago.

In Science this term we have been looking at different materials and identifying what properties they have. We went on a materials hunt round school to find objects made of lots of different materials.

At the start of the Spring term, Class 4 looked at the story of Traction Man and his best friend Scrubbing Brush. The children really enjoyed the books and from this created brilliant pieces of writing and some drama too.

Hello and welcome to our class page! Class 4 is a team of 30 explorers, one teaching assistant, Mrs Shepherd, and one teacher, myself, Miss Gossington. We also work closely with the rest of the Year 1 team who are in Class 3 with Mr Gale and Mrs Knapcyzk.

This year each class has been paired with an author and ours is Dr Seuss!  We have already started reading some of his books and looking at some of his characters.  You will notice over the coming weeks that there will be lots of Dr Seuss themed displays and pieces popping up in our classroom. Over the year we will be learning more about our chosen author so please keep an eye on all the exciting things we do.

The children have settled in really well and have made a great start to the year ahead. This half term we will be starting with the topic ‘My Local Area’ and will be exploring Gedling, Nottingham and the UK in Geography.  In Science we will be investigating senses and the human body.  In Art we will be learning about the artist William Morris and will be printing patterns just like him.  We will be discussing what it means to 'belong' in RE and which groups we are part of.  In ICT we shall start with learning basic skills needed for using a laptop such as logging on and off, mouse control and the terminology.  We have two PE lessons each week, one on a Wednesday and the other on a Thursday. The Sports Coaches will teach us Gymnastics and floor work, whilst Mrs Southall will teach us Dance with an emphasis on Country Dancing. In Music we shall be learning songs, chants and rhymes with Mrs Wright.

We are really excited about the term ahead and I am sure that we are going to have lots of fun and enjoyment in our learning this year! Please keep checking this page as this is where we will be keeping you up to date with our learning though photographs, work and newsletters.

Class 4 have been learning about the festival of Diwali. We started this learning experience with a fantastic visit from Rev Johnson, look at the exciting things we did.

Since starting in Year 1 we have been busy learning in lots of ways and exploring different subjects. Here is a display of a piece of work we did all about ourselves in the first week.

We started off Literacy by writing all about the fun things we did over the Summer Holiday.

We have a lesson of Computing each week. This half term we have been learning how to correctly log on and off, shut down, open and close programmes and practice our keyboard skills.

Here are some photos of us enjoying our 2.5 km Fun Run on the 29th of September.

We have been learning about our local area. We went on a walk around Gedling to spot different features such as bus stops, the post office, different types of houses and shops.

We learnt about the differences between the countryside ad the town, made a map of our Gedling walk and looked at different physical and human features.

Below is some of our work abut the book The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse.

During Culture week we learnt about Ghana. We found out about the flag; wrote facts about safari animals that live there; learnt that cacao beans grow there which make chocolate; and learnt an African dance. Below are some photographs of our work.

We have music once a week with Mrs Wright. Here we are playing instruments and keeping to a beat.
