Here we are!

Hello Everyone! smiley

Welcome to Class 5.

Our teacher is Miss Greasley, our teaching assistant is Mrs O'Hare and we work closely with Class 6, Mrs Broad and Mrs Smith.  We are all Superstar learners in Class 5 and we try our best every day!

Our Class Author this term is Claire Freedman-you might know some of her books......................Aliens Love Underpants, Superkid and Top Top Secret Agent.

Every morning we practice our phonics and handwriting.  After that we do English, where we work hard on our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. We then stop and have our milk and fruit before a well earned playtime!  After playtime, we do our Maths and problem solving work.  By the time we have finished that, we have worked up an appetite so we have lunch and another playtime.

In the afternoon, we work hard on different subjects such as Art, P.E, Science, History, Geography and R.E.

We all work as a team in class and look after each other by following our Golden Rules.

Please keep checking on this page to look at all the exciting learning we have been doing in Class 5!

Class 5 have been looking at the life cycles of different animals. Take a look at the sorting and ordering that we did!

Culture Week

The whole school is taking part in Culture Week.  Year 2 are learning all about the United Kingdom.  So far we have looked at the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom and traditions and characteristics of each of those countries.

We have made Claddaghs from Northern Ireland and retold the story of Finn McCool and the Giants Causeway.  We have done some Irish dancing which was so much fun.  We have also tasted food from the different countries of the UK.

We have been learning about physical and human features of Wales and made Welsh dragons out of clay!

DT Making Tudor Houses

As part of our 'Fire Fire' topic, we have been making houses from 1666 and the Great Fire of London.  We looked at the features of the houses and then planned our design, and then made them as part of our Design and Technology learning.

The Fire Service came to visit

Science

In Science, we are learning about Materials and their properties.  Today we made a list of all the different materials we could think of. Miss Greasley then asked us what we thought would happen to the different materials when we heated them up. We all had to make a prediction about each material.  After that we went outside and had a fire! Each material was dropped in the fire, and after the fire had gone out, we looked at what had happened to each material.

The Fire!

Claire Freedman

In English we have been looking at our class author, Claire Freedman.  We have written fact sheets about her and we have explored some of the different books that she has written.
