Religious Education

At Phoenix we follow the agreed RE syllabus for Nottinghamshire and using this agreed syllabus we enable our pupils to discover more about religion as well as other world views as we assist them to apply their learning to a range of topics. Our pupils are encouraged to express their ideas and insights into key questions which face all human beings as we travel through life. By following the agreed syllabus, RE will also contribute to a whole range of school priorities. Study of religious and world views will also promote spiritual, cultural, social and moral development and will support pupils' understanding of British Values such as acceptance and respect for others who hold different world views.

Year 1 went to visit All hallows Church in Gedling. We looked at the different features inside and outside the church such as the font, pulpit, lectern, organ, stained glass windows, altar and the graves.  Take a look at the photographs below of Class 4.

This spring term class 6 have been looking at belonging. We completed a mind map to show all the ways that we can belong. We then looked at what happens at a baptism and how then you belong to the church community. From this we thought about what rules could apply when you belong to certain places or things.

In the Spring term Class 4 have been learning all about myself and caring for others. We looked at different ways people care for us and how we care for others. We also looked at the parables of The Good Samaritan and The Lost Sheep and we explored the meanings behind the stories and that it is important that we all look out for each other.

In Class 4 we have been learning all about different festivals and celebrations. We looked at how Jews celebrate Hanukkah, Hindus celebrate Diwali and how Muslims celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr. We made diva lamps in art. We will also be learning all about how Christians celebrate Christmas. Take a look at our photographs.

This half term in F2 the children have been sharing family boxes and talking about their family members and places that are special to them.

In Year 2 we have been learning about different important religious leaders including Moses and Saint Peter. Today we were thinking about different leaders and what makes them a good leader.
