Every classroom has a welcoming and calming book area, designed to nurture a love of reading and provide children with a peaceful space to enjoy books. Each area features a carefully chosen selection of texts by the class’s chosen author, books the children have enjoyed and recommended reads linked to the topics being taught that term. Alongside this, our phonics walking wall highlights the sound being taught each day, providing a visual reminder to support children’s learning and encourage them to recognise, practise and apply their phonics knowledge throughout the school day. These inviting and purposeful spaces inspire children to explore new stories, revisit familiar favourites and develop a lifelong love of reading.
Class Authors
Each class chooses a class author every term. A basket of books written by their chosen author will be displayed for the children to choose. The children vote for a story at milk and fruit time out of the choice of 2. Every classroom also has a basket for "Books we have enjoyed." This basket will include books from previous authors the children have read.
For Autumn Term 2026 Puffins and Finches are reading books written by Julia Donaldson, Woodpeckers are reading books written by Colin McNaughton, Hummingbirds are reading books by Tom Percival and Kingfishers are reading books written by Nathan Byron.
World Book Day
On World Book Day 2026, our children enjoyed a wonderful day celebrating the joy of reading. Instead of staying in their usual classrooms, the children travelled around the school to visit different teachers, each of whom shared one of their favourite stories.
Throughout the day, the children listened to a wide variety of engaging books and took part in a range of fun activities linked to the stories they heard. From creative tasks to lively discussions, the day encouraged imagination, curiosity and a love of reading.
It was fantastic to see the excitement across the school as children discovered new books, shared favourite characters and celebrated the magic of storytelling together.
