Writing

At Phoenix, we use Ready Steady Write by Literacy Counts to deliver a systematic, well-sequenced approach to writing from F2 through to Year 2. The programme is built around high-quality texts, a talk-rich approach, and explicit teaching of writing skills, ensuring all children are supported to succeed. Lessons follow a clear teaching sequence of modelled writing, shared writing, guided practice, and independent application, allowing pupils to build confidence step by step. Strong emphasis is placed on oral rehearsal, sentence construction, and the accurate use of handwriting, spelling, and punctuation, closely aligned with phonics and reading. This consistent and inclusive approach ensures that learning builds progressively over time, supports early identification of gaps, and enables all pupils at Phoenix to develop fluency, confidence, and independence as writers.
